Découvrir → budo-fight.com Published on **June 20, 2024** # How to Choose Your Boxing Gloves? **Boxing**, also known as the **Noble Art**, is increasingly popular among combat sports. As a **comprehensive activity**, it combines cardio training, strength conditioning, speed, explosiveness, and strategy. Budo-Fight shares its tips to help you **choose the right boxing gloves** for your needs. ## Boxing gloves: essential protection Boxing gloves are the barrier between your opponent's force and the bones in your hand: they help **protect both fighters' physical integrity**. *Did you know? In Ancient Greece, opponents fought seated, with leather straps wrapped around their hands. The first to collapse lost. To shorten the duration of matches, some Roman competitors wore cestus: leather straps fitted with metal plates.* ## Boxing gloves tailored to every practice Just like in Muay Thai or French boxing, boxing offers a range of glove types suited to each practice: sparring, bag gloves, competition, and general training. ## What makes boxing gloves unique? Boxing gloves are not Muay Thai gloves or French boxing gloves. They have specific features designed exclusively for boxing. - **The palm is more padded** than on Muay Thai gloves, since grabbing is not allowed in boxing. - **The back of the hand is more padded** than on French boxing gloves, which, as a discipline focused on light contact, favors lighter models. - **The thumb is attached** to the rest of the glove since grabbing is not permitted. ## 3 tips for choosing your boxing gloves Choose gloves **in the right size**: Glove weight Boxer's weight 8 oz women: 35 to 45 kg / men: 35 to 55 kg 10 oz women: 45 to 55 kg / men: 55 to 65 kg 12 oz women: 55 to 65 kg / men: 65 to 80 kg 14 oz women: 65 to 75 kg / men: 80 to 95 kg 16 oz women: > 75 kg / men: > 95 kg - Choose gloves designed to **match your skill level**: lightweight and flexible gloves are ideal for beginners who need to develop technique and agility, while thicker gloves are better for experienced boxers looking to reduce the risk of injury during sparring or competition. - Decide between **Velcro, which is easier to open and close**, and **laces, which provide optimal wrist support**.
