Découvrir → budo-fight.com Published on **June 20, 2024** # Which boxing gloves should you choose for punching bag training? Each specific boxing discipline requires a particular type of glove. That’s why there are **bag gloves**, designed specifically for **training on a punching bag**. How do you choose the right ones? Budo-Fight explains everything you need to know. ## What are bag gloves? Although boxing is practiced against an opponent, it’s actually **bag gloves that are used most often**. In fact, **you spend more time training than fighting**, which is why bag gloves are used for many hours. Whether you’re working with a speed ball, a punching bag, focus mitts, or a dummy, bag gloves are the recommended choice. ## The specifics of bag gloves ![Gants de sac](https://www.budo-fight.com/upload/images/2024/gants-de-sac2.jpg)Bag gloves feature **very dense foam** that is **less technical** than **competition gloves**. The foam density makes these gloves **quite firm**, providing the protection you need during bag training. However, they lack flexibility and **are not suitable for sparring** (they could even injure your partner). Contrary to what you might think, bag gloves have **less padding over the knuckles than competition gloves**: this allows boxers to **get used to the impact** and feel each strike. The pain from a punch helps the boxer know if they’re working effectively or if they need to adjust their stance. This also encourages the boxer to **rely on more than just punching power** to win fights, and to **develop technical skill**. Bag gloves are therefore designed quite differently from other types of boxing gloves. Here are **2 key principles** to help you choose bag gloves that fit your needs: - Choose gloves with **more or less padding** depending on your punching power: the harder you tend to hit, the more padding you’ll need. - Choose gloves that **match your training goals**: Want to focus more on technique rather than power? Go for gloves with less padding. On the other hand, if you want to increase your punching power, choose gloves with more padding.
