He is expected to appear before the Blanchardstown District Court in **April**. Despite his troubles, he remains a major **champion** in his discipline. **Budo-Fight**, a specialist in martial arts and combat sports, invites you to look back at the eventful career of the **highest-paid athlete of the 2020-2021 season**. ## Conor McGregor: Plumbing, Soccer, or MMA? Conor McGregor is an **MMA** fighter born in Dublin in 1988. Even though today McGregor is **the most iconic mixed martial arts fighter**, his lifestyle hasn't always been the same for the man nicknamed **The Notorious One**. Coming from Dublin’s working class, he started going to gyms at a very young age, especially in the suburb of **Crumlin**. He even began an apprenticeship as a plumber. For a while, he worked 12-hour days before heading to training. He eventually gave up plumbing to focus entirely on sports. It was in **2007** that McGregor, then **18 years old**, began his MMA career in Ireland with his first amateur fight. After winning the match by technical knockout, he signed a contract to become a **professional MMA fighter**. However, as his MMA career was just getting started, he decided to join the **Yellowstone Celtic** soccer club, part of the **Leinster Amateur Football League**. In this league, matches between various amateur clubs in Dublin are organized. Here too, McGregor impressed with his performances: **top scorer on his team with 1 or 2 goals per match**. He stayed with the same club for several years before dedicating himself fully to MMA. ## The Early MMA Success of Conor McGregor McGregor first started in the ![Octogone MMA](https://www.budo-fight.com/upload/images/Sans%20titre%20(1).jpg) lightweight division, where he won all his fights. He then moved to the featherweight division, where he suffered his **first defeat**. After a second loss upon returning to the lightweight division, he recorded **4 consecutive wins at the start of 2011**. At the end of 2011, he joined the Cage Warriors league and found such success that he fought for the featherweight title against **Dave Hill**. He emerged victorious and defended his title in December 2012 against **Ivan Buchinger**. With his many victories, McGregor became one of the **best European fighters** and landed contracts with the world’s biggest **[MMA](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/news/news-new-arrivals/mma-is-a-ufc-event-coming-soon-to-france)** organization, the **Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)**. ## Conor McGregor’s UFC Career The “Notorious” made his UFC debut in April 2013, defeating **Marcus Brimage**. His second win resulted in a **torn ligament** in his knee, forcing him to pause his career for **10 months**. Upon his return, he **racked up victories** and in December 2015 became the new **undisputed featherweight champion**. It took him only **13 seconds** to defeat his opponent **José Aldo**, winning the title and setting the record for the fastest finish in the process. Less than a year later, he defeated UFC lightweight champion **Eddie Alvarez**, becoming the **first fighter to hold two titles in different weight classes simultaneously**. He eventually left the UFC to focus on his first child before returning some time later, still as hungry as ever. ## Soon a Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 4? McGregor and Dustin Poirier have a long-standing rivalry dating back to their first bout in 2014 at **UFC 178**. But MMA fans especially remember the third meeting, the famous **Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3**. At the end of this fight, the **MMA star McGregor** had to leave the octagon on a stretcher after suffering a broken leg. This injury wasn’t the only twist in the bout: throughout the fight, McGregor kept taunting Poirier and his wife. Since then, the two have continued exchanging barbs through the media, and fans are speculating about a possible fourth fight. However, this possibility seems to be **fading** as time goes by. Poirier appears to have put the feud behind him and doesn’t want to face McGregor again. As for McGregor, **[he seems highly motivated to get back in the ring](https://lasueur.com/conor-mcgregor-dustin-poirier-18-11-2021)** even though he hasn’t fully recovered from his injury yet. In any case, he is determined to **regain his title** no matter who holds it when he returns. ## What’s Next for Conor McGregor? McGregor has had quite a ![Conor McGregor](https://www.budo-fight.com/upload/images/istockphoto-1145369842-170667a.jpg)career: **undisputed master of MMA**, he even faced [**Floyd Mayweather**](https://www.lequipe.fr/Boxe/AussiFicheAthlete19991.html) in a boxing match. While he still wants to return to the octagon, his physical condition and successful business ventures, especially his whiskey brand “**Proper No. Twelve**,” make things more complicated for The Notorious One. Indeed, his business life leaves him less time to train. It would therefore be difficult for him to return to his **former level**. Even if McGregor steps back into the ring soon, it will likely be out of passion, having already achieved his goals.
