Budo-Fight is here to give you all the details on the topic! ## **Are Cobra Kai black karate gi allowed by regulations?** **Karate gi** are subject to regulations, both for aesthetics and for sleeve gripping. As such, **sleeveless black gi** are prohibited in official competitions. However, if you want to train in a black karate gi, your coach will likely not object, just as with embroidery. When it comes to sleeveless gi, though, there’s no guarantee your karate club will allow karateka to train in sleeveless **karate gi**. Unless, of course, you run into **Johnny Lawrence**…! To carefully choose your karate gi, don’t hesitate to check out [our dedicated guide](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/guides/how-to-choose-the-right-karate-gi). ## Where can you find Cobra Kai karate gi? The **Cobra Kai team karate gi** seem to have been heavily customized, as sleeveless karate gi are quite rare. However, brands like Budo-Fight or [Shureido](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/product/shureido-kb-10-karate-gi) do offer **black karate gi**. For fans of the Miyagi-Do pacifists, you’ll find plenty of [white karate gi](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/catalog/karate) on the market. As for embroidery, Budo-Fight also offers [a customization service](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/guides/example-of-logo-embroidery-for-personalized-gi). You can even submit your own logo, including those of **Cobra Kai** or **Miyagi-Do**! ## Is the crane technique from Karate Kid a real karate move? Our **martial arts experts** looked into the matter, and it turns out the [crane technique](https://youtu.be/VoETEwHM2Qw), made famous by Daniel Larusso in Karate Kid, does exist among karate moves! This technique actually comes from Kyokushinkai karate, a full-contact karate style developed in the 1950s and 60s. This kick, aimed at the opponent’s face, is called [Tobi Mae Geri](https://youtu.be/BqWgxuteGe0). So yes, it’s a real karate move. However, the specific style Daniel uses, with his hands raised above his body, isn’t very traditional and is more of a cinematic effect. To become an expert in this combat sport, you can also draw inspiration from the **techniques of the 2012 world champion** [**Alexandra Recchia**](https://youtu.be/L0f8Hna8hEE). ## Who is more skilled in karate: Johnny Lawrence or Daniel Larusso? Budo-Fight’s martial arts specialists debated this question for you! And objectively, Daniel Larusso (student and Sensei of Miyagi-Do) and Johnny Lawrence (student and Sensei of Cobra Kai) are both highly effective and complement each other. That’s actually why they end up forming an alliance after years of rivalry! **Daniel Larusso is a follower of Miyagi-Do karate**, which places great importance on kata, those sequences of movements that embody the **spirituality of karate**. **Johnny Lawrence, on the other hand, is a former Cobra Kai student** under Sensei Kreese, who emphasizes efficiency and… violence, both physical and psychological. In any case, here at the editorial team, we’d have preferred to take lessons from the late Mr. Miyagi rather than Sensei Kreese! ## Was Master Miyagi a red belt in karate? Master Miyagi passes on all his knowledge to Daniel Larusso through **repeated kata in harmony with nature**, in his peaceful Japanese garden in a working-class Los Angeles neighborhood. Whether it’s painting fences, cleaning cars, or trimming bonsai, Mr. Miyagi teaches Miyagi-Do karate to reveal the spiritual side of this martial art rather than its fighting ability. We never actually see Mr. Miyagi in his gi, and he even gives it to Daniel as a gift. So, his “official” rank remains unknown. What’s clear is that he refuses to put value on **ranks** and other hierarchical signs in **karate**—that’s the true strength of Mr. Miyagi! ## Is it difficult to become a black belt in karate like Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence? Becoming a **black belt in karate** takes many years of practice and hard work… but it’s not impossible! You need to stay patient, motivated, and show fighting spirit. ## What is the order of karate belts? The order of belts is as follows: 1. white belt 2. yellow belt 3. orange belt 4. green belt 5. blue belt 6. brown belt 7. black belt. To earn your **black belt in karate**, you must [progress through the ranks](https://www.ffkarate.fr/grades-lepreuve-du-kihon-du-1er-au-3e-dan-en-video/) year after year and obtain the yellow, orange, green, blue, and brown belts. ## Were the karate fights in Cobra Kai performed by actors or stunt doubles? Sorry to disappoint fans, but the most impressive **karate fights** in the Cobra Kai series were performed by stunt doubles. This may be due to insurance reasons, but mainly because [very few cast members actually practice karate](https://www.allocine.fr/article/fichearticle_gen_carticle=18704894.html)! However, some scenes are indeed performed by the actors themselves, who took lessons from professional karate instructors to execute the moves correctly. ## How can you perform Cobra Kai techniques? Have you become a die-hard fan of the series and want to **try karate**? That’s great—there’s never a bad reason to start a new sport! First, you’ll need to sign up for **karate classes** at a **specialized club**. Then, you’ll need to be patient as you learn the **basics of karate** before you can perform the same techniques as in the series. Warning: Karate is a combat sport, so you must have the right gear, especially with [karate protection gear](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/catalog/karate/karate-protective-gear) and [karate gloves](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/catalog/karate/karate-gloves). ## Which martial arts store do Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do shop at? Whether in the **Cobra Kai series** or the **Karate Kid trilogy**, there’s no scene showing where the characters get their gear. However, **Budo-Fight**, the combat sports specialist, offers karate gi, karate protection gear, karate gloves, and [karate bags](https://www.budo-fight.com/en/product/convertible-karate-sports-bag) so you can gear up with peace of mind. ## Are there specialized martial arts stores for karate? There are many specialized stores, including Budo-Fight, recommended by many **karate clubs**. Budo-Fight products are also **recommended by top-level karateka** such as [David Félix](https://www.karate-k.com/fr/sport/actus/811-david-felix-consultant-karate-pour-les-jo-sur-france-tv.html) or Johan Lopes.
